I am Debbie, a BABCP and BACP accredited Cognitive Behavioural Therapist, offering CBT Counselling and Psychotherapy for individual adults.
We can work together to look at a broad range of issues such as: anxiety, stress, grief and loss, trauma, anger, depression and relationship difficulties.
Even if you have been to counselling before, meeting someone new can be challenging especially if you’re feeling out of sorts. You may be feeling overwhelmed by life, stuck in recurring patterns, lost or unable to cope.
By taking a step back from your difficulties, together we can explore and try to understand your problems from different angles and look at how they are affecting you. In time, this will enable you to develop your own resources and through exploring other options, find solutions to overcome short-term and long-term difficulties.
You decide what is right for you and I will do everything I can to support you. Sometimes we spend so much time meeting other people’s needs that we forget about our own. This is where finding some ‘Mindspace’ can be of help.
In our busy lives, we do not always have the time to explore the issues that are preventing us from living our lives in the way that we want. Counselling and Psychotherapy provides you with the space and time to explore your thoughts, feelings and behaviours so you can understand yourself and your issues better.
Together, we can work on ways to help you achieve your goals and fulfil your potential. As your counsellor, I am not here to fix you, but I am here to listen with empathy and compassion, offering you fresh perspectives on your current struggles. I know that you have the answers within you, and I am here to help you find them.
As a Clinical Supervisor, my role is to provide a safe and supportive space for you to discuss your clinical practice, receive guidance and reflect on your own wellbeing. We will work collaboratively to identify areas for growth and development; I will provide targeted feedback to help you reflect on and improve your clinical skills.
I didn't always want to pursue a career in counselling, and instead spent a significant amount of time working in the corporate world. It was during this time that I became aware of the challenges that young people face, particularly those living in areas of deprivation. The disparities between my 'day job' and disadvantaged young people struck a chord with me, and I felt driven from that point onwards to change career and do a job where I could make a difference.
This led me to start training as a counsellor, and I began volunteering in various roles to gain the experience I needed to pursue a 'helping career'. I have worked with survivors of sexual trauma and in numerous charitable organisations with people experiencing mental health distress. I worked as a secondary school counsellor, providing support and guidance for young people. Currently, I am also working as a tutor on a Diploma in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy course.
At Mindspace Therapy, I am committed to providing a safe and supportive environment for clients to explore their thoughts, feelings and experiences. I believe that everyone has the capacity to make positive changes in their lives, and I am honoured to be a part of their journey towards healing and growth.
This accreditation status represents a higher level of quality assurance than that afforded by a membership; as accredited therapists have demonstrated rigorous standards of excellence in their practice to prove they are competent and experienced practitioners.
I am experienced in working with supervisees from trainees to advanced level practitioners. I have successfully supported a number of supervisees through the BACP and BABCP accreditation process; and provided consultative support for colleagues who are also pursuing accreditation with these professional bodies.
I am an experienced supervisor of individuals and small groups and can also offer telephone supervision. I am experienced in providing assessments and constructive feedback of audio recordings; and trained in the use of the CTS-R for CBT Therapists.
I am a COSCA accredited (Diploma level) Tutor and have experience of working with trainee Counsellors and experienced Therapists. I can provide a range of training and CPD opportunities to individuals and organisations, helping you keep your clinical skills up to date. Please get in touch if you have any specific requirements

Counselling is a more general term that refers to a range of talking therapies that aim to help individuals overcome personal difficulties.
CBT stands for Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. It's a type of talk therapy that focuses on the connection between thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. CBT is based on the idea that negative thought patterns can contribute to mental health issues such as anxiety and depression. In CBT, clients learn skills to identify and challenge negative thinking patterns and replace them with more positive ones.
Your therapist will not give you direct advice. Instead, they will guide you towards developing your own solutions to the issues you're facing. They will work with you to develop your own coping mechanisms and strategies to overcome the challenges you're facing.
The number of sessions you will need will depend on your unique
circumstances and goals. The frequency of your sessions will depend on your individual needs and availability. Typically, sessions are held weekly or fortnightly and range from 8-20 sessions.
Yes, all therapy sessions are confidential. Your therapist will not share your information with anyone without your permission, except in rare cases where there is a risk of harm to yourself or others.
Please note I do not offer crisis support or emergency contact out-with sessions. If you require urgent help, please contact your GP or 111 if out of hours. Alternatively, if you are at immediate risk of harm please go to your local A&E or call 999.
You can also access support by calling Breathing Space on 0800 838 587 or The Samaritans on 116 123.
In your first session, you can expect to discuss your concerns reasons for seeking therapy with your therapist. They may ask you questions about your background, medical history, and current situation to gain a better understanding of your needs. You'll also have the opportunity to ask questions about the therapeutic process and get to know your therapist.
No, therapy sessions are not recorded on your medical record unless you specifically request it.
